2017-18 Author Series
Chatting with Kendare Blake
sept 25, 2017
15 Pathways students from all four grades came to speak with Kendare Blake, author of Three Dark Crowns from our summer reading list. In our session with Ms. Blake talked to students about the importance of writing and enjoying it along the way. She said that the biggest thing new writers need to remember is to "be patient."
This is the first of many in our Author Series here at Pathways this year. If you're interested in signing up to attend one in the future, please reach out to Chelsea Usher at [email protected] |
CHAtting with sarah porter
oct 2, 2017
Sarah Porter's writing workshop asked students to get in the feels. Not really, but she did ask the participants to write about feelings. Emotions are powerful things, especially when writers can get their readers to feel a particular way.
This was the second of many Author Series events. If you're interested in signing up to attend one in the future, please reach out to Chelsea Usher at [email protected] |
CHATTING WITH ELISE KOVA
Elise Kova took an interesting approach to our Author Series workshop -- she created a lesson where students in attendance created their own original characters based on a worksheet she created.
After creating their characters, students shared out and built upon what they learned from the Sarah Porter series. |
CHATTING WITH MARTIN HERMAN
Martin Herman joined our class to talk about writing every day. Our students, celebrating Spirit Week's Pajama Day, asked questions on how he developed the habit of writing every single day and why writing daily is important.
He also finds characters important, and adding to Kova's messages, he says that you should know a character so well that you could say, without hesitation, what the character had for breakfast. |
